Our Restart Scheme in Manchester recently hosted an awards presentation in recognition of those who have achieved qualifications through the Digital College platform.
It served as a celebration of personal triumphs, of people overcoming language barriers, low confidence, and long-term disconnection from the job market to embrace new skills and new futures.
“This event isn’t just about handing out certificates,” said Naomi Holton, one of our Key Support Advisors of the Restart Scheme.
“It’s about recognising the grit and commitment each person has shown to reach this point. These qualifications symbolise far more than academic progress, they reflect courage, resilience, and ambition.”
From digital literacy to sector-specific training, our participants have developed essential skills to boost their overall employability as they prepare for real-world job roles.
Among the most celebrated today were regulated qualifications such as Level 2 and Level 3 Food Hygiene certificates and the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card, essential for catering, hospitality, and construction careers respectively.
Naomi emphasised the broader impact of these qualifications, saying:
“We’ve seen individuals go from lacking confidence in their English or in themselves, to earning recognised certifications and stepping into work for the first time in years. It’s transformative, not just for their careers, but for their self-belief.”
Many of our participants began their journeys with limited formal education or work experience, and the road to achievement wasn’t always smooth.
Some were homemakers returning to learning for the first time in decades, while others were transitioning between sectors, such as moving from hospitality to warehousing, thanks to their newly acquired skills.
“A number of our learners have completed their first qualification in years, and in some cases, the first in their whole adult lives,” Naomi continued.
“That moment, holding a certificate in their hands, it’s powerful. It’s a reminder that they can keep going, that they have more to give, and that their potential is real.”
Beyond gaining credentials, participants developed key transferable skills including improved digital literacy, job-readiness, and stronger language comprehension. These, coupled with the support and encouragement provided by the Restart Scheme, have created a ripple effect of motivation and opportunity.
Today’s presentation was not an endpoint, but a beginning. Each certificate handed out marked the start of a new chapter filled with purpose, direction, and a clearer pathway to employment and further learning.
“In every single person here today, there’s a story of growth and determination,” said Naomi. “We couldn’t be prouder, and we’re excited to continue supporting them as they move forward.”
With many learners now actively seeking work, enrolling in further training, or preparing for interviews, the future is much brighter, and firmly in their hands.
Congratulations again to all of our participants!
