Our Introduction to Construction pre-employment training course is designed for those who are looking to kickstart a career in construction, with the added benefit of being able to access the essential CSCS cards needed to secure employment on a construction site.
The course covers multiple aspects of construction, as well as introducing the health and safety requirements when working on site, and explores an understanding of domestic retrofit.
One learner who recently completed the programme is Austin from Cannock, who took the time to leave us his feedback about his experience on the programme.
Austin's story
Austin joined our introduction to construction course after experiencing a period of unemployment and was less than confident about finding a new, full-time role. However, thanks to the support of our team, we were able to build Austin’s confidence back up, as well as teach him vital new skills to enable him to enter a new industry for the first time.
Improved confidence
Austin praised the support he received from both his tutor on the course, and his career support advisor for the help and guidance he received upon completing his training, helping him to understand the CSCS test requirements, which was vital in terms of being able to start working in this industry. He told us how his confidence improved as a result of the support he received from our team.
The inviting atmosphere made 10 days' of work into a fun two-week learning session. I thanked my tutor (Chris) for his exceptional work and interpersonal skills in my exit review, but also my career support advisor (Angeliki) was just as great when it came to their feedback and lovely notes.
They really gave me a confidence boost when I thought I wasn't doing well. Angeliki also took the time to walk me through the CSCS test etiquette. It's always calming to have such a positive person talk to you.
Enjoyable experience
Austin concluded his feedback by revealing that he is soon to start work for a local construction company, and that he believes his experience was both enjoyable and successful.
I now feel much more prepared for working in this industry, because I had difficulty with the jargon before this course, which was holding me back from passing the mock tests. I now feel much more confident, and I've had the best people helping me through it.
The whole process was great, with a fun environment without the usual high pressure you would expect with a course, and I believe that helped me achieve better results.
I'm now in the process of starting work for a construction company. I believe I'm a hard worker and can't wait to get stuck in.
